Let's mark this my first blog post. The whole point of this blog is work life integration, or work life balance as the mainstream calls it. My blogs are broken into two different categories: work and life. Blog posts related to making money, like this, are in the work category. So let's get into this blog post. Affiliate marketing is all the buzz so I decided to get into the space and document my journey. Follow along, learn from my mistakes, and (hopefully) we can both create a lucrative side hustle.
How do I become an affiliate marketer?
This part is actually quite simple. I got set up with the following stack. I got my website and blog created in about 3 hours using Wix. Wix is nice because you don't need to have any coding experience, it's ~$10/mo, and they threw in a free domain name for the first year.
Next, I wanted to start joining Affiliate Marketing Networks. I started by creating an Amazon Affiliate account. This was also very simple. There are many other affiliate marketing networks that you can tap into, but I'll explain in a later post why I like the Amazon Associate program best. I'd recommend starting with affiliate marketing on Amazon because of how easy it was. Also, sign up for ShareASale, another easy one to sign up for and a ton of different merchants. Each merchant on ShareASale has there own commission structure, but here are the payout structures for the Amazon Associate Affiliate Program:
How much money can you make as an affiliate marketer?
Well, right now I have made negative $10 + a few hours. I'm hopeful this will change soon though. Affiliate marketing is a simple equation: Traffic to your website + great content + relevant affiliate links = money in the bank! In addition to affiliate marketing on Amazon there are a ton of other affiliate marketing networks that you can partake in. I just chose to start my affiliate marketing on Amazon because of how easy it was to get set up and quick turnaround time on the approval process.
If you're reading this blog, I'm assuming you already know what SEO is, but if not, I'll get into that in another blog. Affiliate marketing becomes a numbers game and one of the most important parts of this equation is getting traffic to your site. You aren't going to get to 10,000 site visitors per day overnight! Set realistic goals and milestones. Start with 100 visitors/day, then 250, then 500, then 1,000, and so on. We will go into more depth on this, but just start writing. Build out that content. After you do some keyword research, of course.
Welcome to the journey. Here we go!
