How to Start a Blog in 2020 and Make Money

Updated: May 14, 2020

In this work life integration blog we will quickly review an easy three step guide to start blogging today.

Step One: Find Your Niche

This may be the most important part in my mind. You want to pick a topic that is niche enough where there isn't a million people blogging about the same thing, but you also want it to be relevant enough that people are searching and enjoy your content. All things aside, write about what you are passionate about. The goal of work life integration is to monetize something that you enjoy doing. Think of a catchy name too.

Step Two: Get your blog up and running, with some affiliate marketing too

In my last blog I went into more detail on this, but I highly recommend Wix and ShareASale and Amazon for my affiliate marketing networks because of how easy they are. It is completely free to sign up.

Step Three: Write your first blog

Strong content brings in the readers that will ultimately bring you the money. So, go back to your niche (passion), and start doing some keyword research. Google is responsible for 90%+ of total organic traffic and no on really goes past the first page if they are searching on Google. Keywords get you towards the top. There are many sites out there to help you find keywords. I included a screenshot below for one I like to use called Twinword. You want to start coming up with your seed keywords, or a list of keywords that you will use over and over again.

I'll get into keywords in more detail in another blog, but most search queries are a string of four or more words. So instead of your keyword being affiliate marketing, it could be something like how do I make money with affiliate marketing. You'll need to do your own research on this.

Step Four: Monetize your blog with affiliate marketing links

You won't start making money for a while, because you need eyeballs on your blogs and that takes time. But once your blog starts poppin' off people will view past blogs based on their interests or because you are hyperlinking back to them, so start with the affiliate links right away. You can see I included an Amazon Associate Affiliate Link below for an example, and in hopes you click on it and buy something.
