Should I Buy Allbirds?

Are Allbirds worth it? Short answer: yes.

Are Allbirds worth it? Long answer: keep reading.

Allbirds Company Background

Back in 2014 Co-Founders Tim Brown and Joey Zwillinger launched a kickstarter campaign to produce a test version of the shoes and were able to generate $100,000 in four days. Tim Brown is a former pro soccer player and graduate from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Joey Swillinger is a biotech engineer with a focus on renewable materials - makes sense. Allbirds officially started back in 2016 and is known for "the world's most comfortable shoes". Tim Brown, a New Zealand native, is founder of this Unicorn ($1B+ company). You'll see celebrities such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Hilary Duff, and Jessica Alba sporting these fresh kicks. The mainly sell direct-to-consumer, but also have a few store front locations. I visited one in Boston last fall and liked the way it was setup. Allbirds has a big focus on sustainability - their laces are made from 100% post-consumer recycled polyester. They measure the carbon footprint on every product.

Are Allbirds Comfortable?

Yes. I bought a couple pairs for this review (and because I have wanted to try them for a long time). They are best known for the wool that they are made out of, which helps with comfort and to keep that stinky shoe smell out. I have even worked out in them and did not experience any odor afterwards. This is due to the Allbirds' merino wool material - wool is naturally odor-resistant. Honestly, I have pretty sweaty feet, but these shoes breathe.

What Allbirds Should I Get?

Allbirds have seven types of styles: Breezers, Dashers, Loungers, Mizzles, Runners, Skippers, and Toppers. Most of them are $95, but a few styles range from $115-$135.

Allbirds Loungers

Wow these Allbirds Loungers are comfy. I wouldn't wear them if I was going for a run our out exploring a new city all day, but a great shoe to slip on and off when running errands or heading into the office. You can get them in wool or pick up their tree loungers.

Allbirds Mizzles

Allbird released these not too long ago. They are not water proof, but are water repellent, with Allbirds featured Puddle Guard technology. The wool makes for a great temperature control and the rubber makes sure your feet don't get too wet. You can buy them in either their normal or Wool Runner-Up Mizzles high-top version.

Allbirds Runners

These Allbirds Runners are a classic. You can choose between the Wool Runners and Tree Runners. These are the type of shoes I want to be wearing when I'm walking around all day exploring a new city or going on a hike here in Madison, WI. The wool is softer (probably better for colder climates like Madison), and the Tree reminds me of my Nike Roshes because the material leaves room to breathe.

Allbirds Toppers & Allbirds Skippers:

The Tree Toppers and Tree Skippers are pretty much the same shoe with one major difference. The Allbirds Skippers are low-top and the Allbirds Toppers are high-tops. Both shoes have a slightly flatter shoe sole, but are wider. So you get more space, but less support.

Allbirds Breezers

The Allbirds Breezers are just one style - flats. They have a lot of colors to choose from and are perfect if you need something a little more fancy than a sneaker.

My Final Choice: The Allbirds Tree Dashers

The Allbirds Dashers are their latest release and ultimately one of my favorite shoes. Ever. This shoe is great for runners. They were tested over thousands of miles with over 50 professional athletes. They are knitted with a unique-one piece top made from FSC Certified eucalyptus trees. That helps make them super lightweight, flexible, and more breathable than any of their other shoes. Their SweetFoam sole is made with the world's first carbon negative green EVA. It also has their signature Merino Wool along the heel for support and comfort. This shoe looks and feels great. They can be worn for running or just used as an everyday shoe.

So what are you waiting for? Even if you don't like them, Allbirds has a 30-day money back guarantee so you can return them if you don't like them. So again, if you're asking yourself, "Should I buy Allbirds?" the answer is yes, you have nothing to lose, they are super comfortable, and extremely durable.
